Mersey Fibre joins the RCN Network

We’re pleased to announce today that Mersey Fibre has joined River City Networks (RCN). RCN is a standardised wholesale access framework or common technology backbone for digital connectivity.

Armed with speeds up to 100Gbps, and a market place of multiple Broadband providers that boast instant switch-on, RCN’s neutral network connects up residential and commercial buildings to transform their digital connectivity offering.

The RCN concept is simple, bring one high speed dark fibre connection to a building, wire up all of the individual tenant units, then allow any provider on their network to offer various connectivity services.

Saving installation time and costs, a multitude of cables (throughout the landlord’s building) and wayleaves, RCN’s “dig once” strategy future proof’s the building for the next 20 years plus.

For Mersey Fibre, joining RCN will allow us access to many new MDU (Multi Dwelling Unit) buildings and office blocks throughout the Liverpool City Region so that we can offer tenants our services.

Thanks to RCN’s concept, from Sept 2025 (when our beta trial’s begin), tenants of such buildings will be able to scan the QR code within their premises and go live on Mersey Fibre within seconds.

As the second digital connectivity network to connect on the RCN network, we’re launching our services as a beta trial for a number of new customers throughout the rest of 2025.
